Our network audit uncovered 3 main areas that were causing problems and needed to be worked on and upgraded.
- File server access
- Email server setup
- Remote access services
We migrated from Windows 2003 file services for macintosh to ExtremeZ-IP. This provided file services to clients in a truly compatible way to OSX clients. Speed was increased by 500% and there were no more issues with filenames that contained characters that the old windows system could not understand.
We implemented Exchange 2007 as the email server for the company, for the PC users we chose Outlook 2007 and for the mac users we chose Entourage 2008. These products in combination enabled true collaboration between all users - they could see each others calendars, book meetings and rooms, delegate access to email to covers holidays - non of which they could do before.
The sales team replaced their old Nokia phones with iphones which meant they could see their emails on the go, view and schedule meetings and enter contacts that automatically synchronized to their desktop computers.
We configured a remote access server which enabled selective staff to work from home with full functionality (albeit a little slower).
Both staff productivity and morale improved significantly. Users were no longer plagued with crashes, slow network access and corruption.
The sales team spent more time doing what they do best - selling, they saw their equipment and services as a help instead of a hinderance.
The company management were over the moon, as due to the increased productivity, the cost of the solution was paid for within 5 months.
There was no downtime for the users when the new systems were implemented & most of the work was actioned over a weekend.
