On-site backups

PhillipsTaylorBrown has a huge amount experience with on-site backup and storage devices including tape, hard drives, NAS and server synchronisation.

Data backups can spiral. How much redundancy should you have? Should you back up the server only once, or should you backup the backup ? It could go on, and on…

Your primary backup should be an on-site backup, providing you with a robust, easily accessible data backup. This backup resides on-site and can be used for individual file and folder recovery or full recovery of your data. The “problem" with this type of backup is that it is in the same location as your server and so if anything happens to the office, such as fire, flood or theft, you'll most likely lose the backup as well as the server.

We can help you implement the following backup methods....

External Hard Drives

This is a fairly common backup solution for small businesses. It works but has a few issues to consider such as forgetting to swap over the external drive for that day's backup, the possibility of running out of space, hard drive failure and they are easy to lose!

Tape Drives

A single tape drive isn't much better than an external hard drive these days. They can be prone to failure, expensive to buy (especially if large storage is required) and rely on a person changing the tapes over unless a tape vault is used. Manufacturers change specifications often and a tape drive bought today might not be replaceable in a year or two. This could leave you having to buy a whole new tape drive and a new set of tapes. The worst issue is if your tape drive dies, it might not be replaceable and your tapes might not be readable.

NAS drives

(Network Attached Storage) are  are small, inexpensive, provide redundancy by incorporating more than one hard drive, have bags of space, are easily expandable and act as a mini server that sits on your network.
