A new policy change has been announced by the U.S. Government Library of Congress Copyright Office allows owners of electronic devices to break it?s security protections, and allow unauthorized code and programs to be runs on it?s OS.
The decision came earlier today as The Library of Congress Copyright Office reviews and authorizes exemptions for electronic devices and copyright material to ensure that the current law allows for lawful use of non-infringing use of copyright-protected material.
Which is great news for every one in the US, particularly those with an iPhone. The law now makes it legal to jailbreak an iPhone or unlock other devices. Programs like Cydia (a software application for iOS that lets a user browse and download applications for a jailbroken iPhone) to run on a device without the potential fro prosecution. Mobile phones can be legally unlocked so that they can be used with any carrier.
