Some of you familiar with new technology may already know that a number of companies are looking into marketing products designed to charge devices without being plugged in.. wireless charging (at last). One company already in on this act is Powermat – Search for them and check them out, quite interesting stuff.
Microsoft are clearly looking into this technology and a prototype device has been spotted out in the wild (Apple are also looking at this technology so expect something soon from them). The device appears to have been produced by Microsoft research Asia. The device currently labelled uPad was made to celebrate 10 years of Microsoft research in Asia. Its unknown if the?device will be heading towards mass production but would certainly fit nicely into their small but tidy hardware niche.
Microsoft have already applied for patents for the device and according to the patent information devices can be placed either side of the pad?for wireless charging, the device will also include a small screen to display information whilst charging.
