Two updates were released yesterday by Microsoft for Internet Explorer 9 Beta. One, to fix stability problems throughout the browser. The other resolves an issue on 64-bit machines with Windows Live Essentials 2011.

Users who have enable automatic updates will be patched without the need of user intervention. Those who haven?t should update IE9 Beta now. KB2448827 is a recommended patch for all IE9 Beta users as it fixes stability issues in "various scenarios." The second fixes the feedback tool built into IE9 which users on 64-bit OSs with WLE 2011 installed were unable to run.

IE9 is not in its final release, these two fixes are based on user feed back. IE9 Beta and 7 platform preview or the only builds to be released to the public so far.

IE9 P6 is pretty much IE9 but without the UI, it isn?t out in beta yet and is already pretty much beating the competition hands down. Google Chrome came in a fairly close second with Firefox, Opera, and Safari falling way behind.

W3C tests only covered attributes, audio, canvas, getElementsByClassName, foreigncontent, video and xhtml5. The results for the CSS3 test and other non-HTML5 related test can be found on W3C?s website.

The release candidate of IE9 is expected to launch in the next few months. This will bypass a beta 2 release.

Internet Explorer 9 isn?t due out until mid September, but Microsoft Russia have got a bit excited and posted a screen shot of IE9?s user interface. The screen shot has been confirmed as genuine.

The site has been pulled since the image was posted, so the above screen shot is all we have for now. Mary managed to find out the following from the site however.

Tabs can be ?torn off?, and possibly ?snapped? via Windows 7′s Aero Snap feature.

Dragging a ?pin? from the address bar creates a link on your taskbar.

There?s a combined search and address bar (as with Google?s Chrome).

IE9 only has one menu, consolidating the six menus found in IE8.

It seems to be much more minimalistic than previous versions, no suggested sites along with some other icons that we?ve been used to seeing. but there?s still button for home, favourites and settings.

Whether you?re a fan or not, all signs point to is being a winner in terms of performance. And it?s certainly in keeping with Microsoft’s current aesthetics.

Microsoft has been working hard on Internet Explorer 9, releasing 3 IE9 previews. Each one being an improvement on the last. While the previews have not seen a new user interface, they have performed very well by all other means. An with the fourth and final preview being released today, progress is being rapidly made.

According to Dean Hachamovitch, Microsoft General Manager, This release the potential advantages of fully hardware accelerated HTML 5 graphics, and great performance improvements on industry standard tests. On the Acid 3 test preview 3 received 88/100, preview 4 has scored 95/100. The missing 5 point are due SVG fonts and animations that are currently being transitioned.

The public beta is due for release in September. Microsoft is asking web devs to start coding their sites according to web standards rather than testing for IE versions. Hachamovitch has said that the platform is near to completion and therefore ready for public testing.

You can read more about what IE9 has to offer in our previous blogs. And if you want to get your hands on IE9 preview 4 you can down load it from the IE site.

Microsoft has revealed a new download manager in an early IE9 build.

Screen shots of the build were leaked to Chinese Website Cnbeta early in the week. The screen shots show a download manager that allows you to pause and cancel downloads, a new icon for IE9 and improved security controls for add-ons. These new features give an early clue as to what we can expect in the first public beta. No real UI changes are apparent apart from the new icon. The screen shots have been verified as genuine and from a build distributed to partners.

IE9 will take advantage of the power of GPU for rendering. Developers can fully utilize this with CSS, JavaScript and DHTML. IE 9 will also have a new JS engine, enhanced tab browsing, and broader support for HTML5. Recent tests have showed great results for IE9, which are very promising. currently in the beta testing phase and is expected to go to public beta in September.

Microsoft recently released it?s third preview of IE9. It?s coming close to it?s first beta release and is showing allot of promise. IE9 looks to be a strong competitor in the browser wars. With new HTML5 support and improved an JavaScript engine, IE9 can use hardware acceleration to deliver a better browser experience. Previous tests have shown that IE9?s rendering engine is really pushing it towards supremacy. Which is great news considering the flop that was IE8.

But what about other browsers, Download Squad decided to do their own speed test. A HTML5 speed test between IE9, Firefox3.7, Chrome 6 and the latest version of Opera. IE9 preview 3 was only narrowly beaten by Firefox, just a 5% margin. IE9 and Firefox were way ahead of the other browsers, and both used the least amount of CPU when performing. Chrome 6 failed massively, but is said not to support hardware acceleration just yet. Opera performed pretty well, but just couldn?t keep up in the end.

All these browsers bar Opera are still in the testing phase, so there are still many tweaks to be made before they are officially released. So in end user terms, things can only get better. You can have a look at the tests here.

Reports are out that Microsoft will release Internet Explorer 9 platform preview 3 later today.

This preview will include support for the HTML5 video tag. Microsoft demoed IE9 against Safari earlier in the month, it?s expected that updated HTML5 tests will be posted to it?s test drive site later today.

Internet Explorer 9 was unveiled at PDC 2009 by Microsoft. IE 9 will use the power of the GPU to it?s advantage for the rendering of pages. Developer will be able to use CSS, DHTML and javascript to exploit this. Chakra, a new JS engine will also be built into IE9 bringing greater interoperability and support for web standards all round. Features like rounded corner CSS support will be built in, and enhanced tab browsing is planned, providing better functionality and management options. Internet Explorer 9 will also be built with HTML5 in mind, Microsoft are planning broader support with it?s new script engine.

With help from W3C, Microsoft have performed a total of 192 tests on all browsers. These tests include HTML5, SVG 1.1 2nd edition, CSS3 media queries, CSS3 borders & backgrounds, CSS3 selectors, DOM level 3 core, DOM level 3 events and DOM level 2 style. Internet Explorer 9 scored 100% in these 8 tests. All other browsers, with the exception of Firefox in DOM level 2 style tests, didn?t quite manage to reach this perfection in any of the categories.

The hunt for IE9 beta testers began back in March. The Program Manager of Internet Explorer, Justin Saint Clair, invited people into a "select group? of tester by e-mail. It?s thought that the public beta will launch in August.

Microsoft may have dropped a big hint via way of a hotfix, that IE9 beta will be coming soon.

An update fro Windows 7 issued on Tuesday is "to support features in Internet Explorer 9 Beta". The KB2120976 update resolves some issues with streaming that relate to Media Foundation in Windows 7. IE9 has had 2 developer versions released, both of which did not have a full UI. New developer previews have been promised by Microsoft every 8 weeks, the last one was on May the 5th.

Could the next preview be the beta? Microsoft began looking for IE9 beta testers in March. the Program Manager of Internet Explorer, Justin Saint Clair, invited testers into a "select group of IE9 Tech Feedback participants."

Alas, it turns out the above picture was just a wording mistake. On the hotfix you will now see the words "upcoming release of an Internet Explorer 9 platform preview build". The general rumour now, is that IE9 Beta will be released in August.

Apple recently released Safari 5, and Microsoft have responded by demoing IE9?s hardware acceleration abilities.

Brandon LeBlanc, of the Windows Team blog, posted a video on Tuesday of a comparison of IE9 and Safari. LeBlanc said in his blog: "Apple announced and released Safari 5. We figured we would show IE9 and Safari 5 together", said LeBlanc. A video shows the two browsers running demos from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 test drive website.?

The first demo shown is the JavaScript flying images, IE9 manages about 50fps, Safari 5 struggles at 9fps. The Flikr Explorer test is the next demo, IE9 reaches about 20fps, Safari 5 only hits about 7fps. IE 9 is still under development by Microsoft who have recently issued preview builds to developers. LeBlanc also announced that there have been over 1 million downloads of the developer preview so far.
